This standard 1930s bridge crosses Grand Avenue (US-69) in the heart of Ames.
The structure was built in 1937 in response to a grade crossing issue. This structure, along with another C&NW bridge to the north as well as the Main Street bridge were all built at this time.
The structure consists of three I-Beam spans, arranged in a typical way for the era. The substructures are a typical concrete art deco design.
In addition to carrying three main Chicago & North Western tracks, the bridge was also built to carry a Fort Dodge, Des Moines & Southern track.
The author has ranked the bridge as being locally significant, due to the common design.
